Key Projects: Design, Supply, and Installation of Lightning Protection System and Surge Protection Device for ICTSI Subic Port Gantry Crane and Administration Offices.
In 2012, ICTSI initiated a project in order to
protect their gantry cranes and adjacent
administration offices. This was due to an incident
when lightning struck their gantry crane and
damaged its electronics and thus, halting their
operations.
Given this, LCDC devised a plan that would
include the movement of the crane to the design
of the Lightning Protection System. The project
was then awarded to LCDC and was completed in
2012.
Given that this was a laterally moving crane, part
of the challenge was how to connect the
Lightning Arrester Terminal to the grounding. All
suppliers were tasked to submit their own design
and methodology in installing the lightning
protection system.
As part of the design, the whole port was totally
protected with the installation of 6 units Ellips
Lightning Protection System and 12 units of TVSS
to be located in various circuit breakers.
The total cost of the project is 4 million Php.
